
It was stated that the day is likely to be declared as a public holiday at the same time and a name for the possible public holiday will be decided after discussion in the cabinet meeting.[8] The Allocation of Business proposal prepared for the formation of the July Mass Uprising Directorate under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs mentioned the observance of the day, which was sent to the Administrative Development Secretary's Committee on 6 January 2025 and approved in their meeting.[9] On 29 April 2025, an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Farooq-e-Azm, Advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, finalized the decision to select the name of the day and send a proposal to the Cabinet Division to classify it as 'A'.[10] On 16 June 2025, Inqilab Manch demanded that the day be declared as "National Liberation Day", comparing it with the country's Independence Day and Victory Day. [11] On 19 June 2025, the Advisor to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui, confirmed the decision to declare the day a regular public holiday from that year. [12] On the same day, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party formed a committee to observe the day. [13] On 24 June 2025, the government announced a 26-day 'July Commemoration Programmes' from 1 July to 5 August to mark the one-year anniversary of the student-people's uprising, which included 36 July. [14] The next day, the government officially declared 36 July as the "July Mass Uprising Day" and included it in the list of Category A days. [15] On 28 June 2025, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami announced plans for a mass procession in the capital and processions and rallies across the country to mark the day. [16] On 2 July 2025, the day was declared a national holiday. The government issued a notification declaring the day as an official annual holiday.[17] On the same day, the Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis decided to hold a victory procession on 5 August.[18] The next day, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education of Bangladesh sent a letter to all educational institutions under its jurisdiction, instructing them to observe the day.[19] In addition, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting decided to organize special events to mark the day, including parent gatherings and two film screenings at 64 district administrators' offices, multiple film screenings at Bangladesh embassies, multiple locations, Jatrabari intersection, and all schools, colleges, and universities, Sufi music and prayer mahfils at shrines, publication of books related to the mass uprising, honoring the families of six journalists killed in the July massacre, organizing a program at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's theater, and publishing special supplements in newspapers.[20] 17 July 2025 In 2011, Bangladesh Bank announced that all banks in the country would be closed on the day.[21]
